Fill it as you go.

Every Base Set collector hits the same wall. You want the binder in perfect number order, but you own forty cards and the gaps make it look like a half finished project instead of a collection in progress.

This kit fixes that. You print a placeholder for all 102 cards, slot them into your 9 pocket pages in order, and the binder looks complete from day one. Every time a card arrives, you pull the placeholder and drop the real card into its exact spot. No reshuffling, no rebuilding, no guessing which number goes where.

What is on each placeholder

Card number and its position in the set, the card name, a colour band for the type or category, and the rarity. Nothing else. They are quiet enough to sit next to real cards without fighting them, and clear enough to read at a glance across an open binder.

The colour bands are also a fast visual map. Once the binder is set up you can see the shape of the set, where your holes are, and how far along you are without reading a single word.

The checklist does the part collectors actually find hard

Base Set is not 102 cards. It is 102 cards across four English print runs, and that is where people lose track.

Every card gets its own row with four tick boxes: 1st Edition, Shadowless, Unlimited and 1999-2000. There is a grade and notes line beside each row for PSA numbers, condition notes, or what you paid. The cover page has rarity totals to fill in as you go, a plain English explainer of how to tell the four print runs apart, and a dedicated tracker for the sixteen holos, because that is where most of the set value sits.

Most checklists stop at three runs. This one includes the 1999-2000 print, also called the 4th print or the UK print, where the copyright line at the bottom of the card ends 1999-2000 instead of 1999. It went mainly to the UK, Europe and Australia, it is the smallest of the English runs, and it is the one most collectors have sitting in a binder without realising it.

It also flags the three things that trip people up. Machamp 8/102 was only ever 1st Edition inside the 2-Player Starter Deck, which makes it the cheapest 1st Edition holo in the set. Cards 97 to 102 carry no rarity symbol at all, which is correct and not a misprint. And on 1999-2000 cards Vulpix 68/102 reads 50 HP, corrected from the error HP 50 on every earlier run, so one card tells you a lot about which run you are holding.

What you get

12 placeholder sheets, nine cards per page, crop marks included

102 numbered placeholders, Alakazam 1/102 through Water Energy 102/102, in set order

1 Base Set title card for the front of the binder

5 blank write in cards for promos, variants or your own notes

4 page master checklist with 1st Edition, Shadowless, Unlimited and 1999-2000 boxes and a grade and notes line for all 102 cards

2 page print and cut guide with the exact settings, the colour key, and three ways collectors set these up

Both paper sizes. A4 and US Letter, six PDFs in total

Sizes and printing

Placeholders cut to 63 x 88 mm, just inside a real card at 63.5 x 88.9 mm, so they sit flush in a standard 9 pocket page without bowing the plastic.
